Renovation in Santa Maria del Camí
The houses along the old road are modest at the front and the plots behind them are not. On a good number of properties the interesting project is not the house at all, it is what can go at the far end of the garden.
The space is behind you
A long plot changes what the options are. Rather than extending a house that is attached on both sides and constrained at the front, you can often put something separate down the garden: a guest annexe, a studio or workshop, a pool with the space around it that a pool actually needs, or a covered outdoor room far enough from the house to be its own place.
A separate building is usually simpler to build than an attached extension too. There is no junction with the old fabric to detail, no structure to tie into, and the work can happen without the house being a building site. What it needs instead is services taken down the plot, which is a trench and a decision rather than a difficulty.
The constraint is getting to the back. Where a plot has no rear access, everything goes through the house or over a wall, and that changes the price of any work down the garden considerably. It is the first thing worth establishing, because it decides whether the project is straightforward or an exercise in carrying things.
What a long plot makes possible
- A guest annexe or separate building at the end of the garden
- A studio, workshop or store away from the house
- A pool with genuine space around it rather than squeezed beside the house
- A covered outdoor room far enough away to be somewhere else
- Extending the house at the back without losing the whole garden
- Services trenched down the plot, decided once and done properly
- Rear access, or the absence of it, which decides the cost of all the above
- What the plot allows, established before anything is designed
- Drainage and where water goes on a long narrow piece of ground
- Keeping the house usable while work happens away from it

How your request reaches a company
Mallorca Renovation is a comparison service. A request for a project at the end of the garden goes to the renovation and building companies on our list; they quote the work and carry it out, and any agreement is between you and the company you pick.

01
Describe the job
Tell us the property, roughly what you want and where it is. Photographs and a rough plan help, though neither is required.
-
02
We match it
The request goes to companies that work in your area and take on this kind of job at this size.

03
They quote you
Each company contacts you directly with its own price, timing and approach. We do not set any of it.

You compare and choose
Put the quotes side by side and take the one you want, or none of them. Using the site costs you nothing.
Is a separate annexe easier than extending?
Frequently, yes. There is no junction with the existing structure to design and the house stays usable throughout. What it adds instead is running services down the plot, which is a cost rather than a complication.
What if there is no access to the back of the plot?
Then material goes through the house or over a wall, and the price reflects it. It is worth saying so at the point of asking, because a quote written assuming a gate at the back and one assuming a hallway are very different numbers.
Can anything be built at the end of the garden?
What the plot allows is established for your property specifically, and it is the first thing to settle. It costs very little to ask and it decides whether the rest of the thinking is worth doing.
