The same job costs differently in different places

A flat in the old centre of the capital, a villa on rock above a harbour and a farmhouse at the end of a track are three renovations with almost nothing in common except the trades involved. One is limited by the street, one by what can be lifted, and one by how far everything has to travel. None of that appears in a plan and all of it appears in a quote.

It is why a company that works in your area is worth more than a cheaper one that does not. Local knowledge here is not a slogan: it is knowing that the lane will not take a lorry, that the wall is soft sandstone and will not accept a cement patch, or that the water table sits a hand span below the slab.
